Art from 2011-12 School Year
This year has been a very busy one in the Art room. We have created environmental posters, math doodles, pinch pots, nutcrackers, and charcoal still-life drawings. We have explored the life-cycle of the sunflower, made mandalas, and drawn in 2D as well as cut and glued in creating our 3D self-portraits.
At the beginning of the new year, my student teacher, Amanda Vella, began her 12 week internship here with me and it has been a delightful "give and take" relationship. She is a talented artist in her own right and has brought such wonderful ideas to the schools where I teach (John J. Flynn Elementary School and the Sustainability Academy at Lawrence Barnes). Together we have created papier-mache bowls which are now being turned into "round rooms" under Amanda's tutelage. The younger students have created Monet-inspired murals and Kandinsky-inspired concentric circles.
The mentoring program includes Ramsey Elder this year. He has created a kachina doll and is currently working on an impressionistic painting.
